Longest‑standing defence relationships

The Netherlands deepens its cooperation with Sentyron – one of Europe’s longest‑standing defence relationships

Sentyron continues to play a central role in the Netherlands’ work on secure communications and high‑assurance cryptotechnology. The cooperation with the Dutch Ministry of Defence dates back to the 1990s and involves several key entities, including M‑Intelligence, the Army, COMMIT/JIVC, and the General Staff.

In 2019, a Strategic Partnership Agreement (SPS) was signed, forming the foundation for long‑term collaboration on the development of national high‑security solutions. Today, Sentyron is a core part of the Dutch crypto roadmap through 2035, with a focus on future secure communications and encryption.

The relationship is characterised by structured governance and regular high‑level meetings, including quarterly reviews with JIVC’s leadership and participation in national forums for cryptotechnology and the defence industry. The long‑term cooperation is also reflected in extensive multi‑year contracts for support, maintenance, and mid‑life upgrades.

Each year, the Dutch Ministry of Defence funds R&D projects at Sentyron amounting to more than 15 million euros, driving the development of solutions used in both national and NATO‑approved systems at the highest security levels. The company retains full ownership of its technology, enabling both sovereign capability for the state and broader commercial development. Sentyron also has a priority (“golden”) share owned by the Dutch state, ensuring long‑term national control over critical capabilities.
